I’m in the process of sketching out ideas for a styled shoot with lots of gold. To get into the gilded spirit, I’ve been gold-leafing most anything that will hold still. I had the most fun with these gold leaf glasses. They’re super-simple and can be crafted with a loose hand.
I started with these basic double old fashioned glasses from crate and barrel and a gold-leafing kit by speedball. I simply applied the kit’s adhesive like paint (in loose brush strokes) and allowed it to set for about 10 minutes. After the glue is tacky, I pressed a sheet of gold leaf on top of the adhesive, and brushed away loose pieces with a dry, soft paint brush. And that’s it! After I added gold leaf to all the glasses, I coated them with a sealer to help keep the gold from tarnishing.
Keep your brushstrokes loose and messy for an imperfect look.
